August-2009
From The President – Howard “Howie” Glenna
The Duluth Rally was “air
conditioned” with a little rain, but it did not dampen the spirits of
the members in their 18 coaches. Some enjoyed it so much they moved to
an RV site downtown Duluth near the lift bridge for another day. We
also had six coaches at the Glenna’s the night before, had a great time
and caravanned to Duluth the next day. I want to thank our wagon
masters Bob and Yvonne Miller and Jim and Teresa Dall. GREAT JOB!!
The Fall Rally is in Menomonie, Wisconsin at the Irvington
Campground, E4176 County Road D. Lucy and Larry Weidner are the wagon
masters with what ever help Midge and I can be to assist. MAKE NOTE
OF THESE DATES AS THE LAST NEWSLETTER HAD THE DATES LISTED INCORRECT.
THE CORRECT DATES ARE SEPTEMBER 11 – 12 – 13 WITH EARLY ARRIVALS ON THE
10TH. The Glenna’s are only one hour away from Menomonie
so come stay with us on September 9th and we can go to
Menomonie together on the 10th.
After the Menomonie Rally we are going to the GMC Motorhomes
International Convention in Pueblo, Colorado, September 27th
to October 2, 2009. For those who would like to caravan to Pueblo we
have a plan. Leave the Glenna’s Sunday morning, September 20th
to over-night with Jim and Anita White in the Wakonda, South Dakota
area. Monday morning the 21st we will drive to Minden,
Nebraska to spend two nights in a great Museum and RV park, departing
Minden the morning of the 23rd of September. Join us at any
stop along the way.
The GREATER
MIDWEST CLASSIC CHRISTMAS PARTY IS DECEMBER 12TH, 2009.
It will be held in Rochester, Minnesota at the Rochester Senior Citizens
Center from 1 – 5 PM. Bob & Marie Mesarchik have a great party
planned. You do not want to miss the party.
One last comment: At the Duluth Rally we had guests from
“down-under” Australia. Rob and Helen Mueller have two GMC Coaches, one
in Australia and one in the USA and they travel around both countries.
Fun people and there is some discussion about getting a group of GMC’ers
to RV in Australia. Bob Miller has agreed to keep us up to date on
these ideas.
From Past President Bob &
Yvonne Miller
As most of you
know we were the wagon masters at the most recent Rally near Duluth. In
spite of some rain, most people seemed to have a good time. We were
very surprised when special guests, (now new members) Rob and Helen
Mueller showed up for the rally. The Mueller’s are from Australia and
spend time during our summer (their winter) touring the USA in their GMC
motorhome meeting new people and visiting new areas of the country. We
first met Rob last year at the International rally in Santa Rosa, and
then later met Helen at the International rally in Delaware. They are
very enjoyable people and we welcome them as new members of our club.
After the rally they followed us home where Rob used my garage to change
oil and grease the coach. The four of us then went out to dinner and
then they stayed overnight in our driveway before heading south on
Saturday. We enjoyed getting to know them better and look forward to
seeing them again.
Rob announced at our business meeting that they were going to
investigate putting together a motorhome sightseeing trip in Australia
for any GMC’ers who may be interested. Those attending would rent
motorhomes and Rob and Helen would plan a tour of several weeks in
Australia including the outback, the Great Barrier Reef, etc. Total
time would be approximately four weeks and if there is enough interest,
it would begin sometime in January 2011. This sounds like an
opportunity of a lifetime if they can make this happen. They will keep
us posted on their research regarding this project, including a “ball
park” estimate of costs. On a separate note, they have an identical GMC
in Australia (except for the right had drive) which is a 75 Avion model,
in fact they are only 2 serial numbers apart which Rob says is totally
coincidence. We certainly hope that they can make this a reality for
those who would like to participate in such a trip.
Vice President
– Lucy Weidner
Greetings to all!
First off, I want to apologize to the group for the confusion
regarding the Fall Rally dates. I guess I type faster than I think and
I didn’t use a proof-reader. Please note the Fall Rally information
included in this newsletter has the correct dates.
A huge thanks to Bob and Marie Mesarchik for arranging the
Christmas Party. Mark you calendars for Saturday, December 12th,
that’s the date. More information will be coming in the next
newsletter. Still working on future Rally dates and sites and have had
some people come and talk to me about their willingness to host one in
the future. If you’re worried that arranging one of these events can be
overwhelming, try and do the Christmas party, it’s a little easier.
Interested in joining us as we head out to Pueblo, Colorado? Contact
the Glenna’s, Miller’s or Weidner’s for more information.
If you have items to share or if you have questions, just
call me at 715-235-7422 or email me at
WeidnerL@wwt.net See you in Menomonie. Safe travels to all! Lucy (&
Larry 2)
